The Uncharted Zone and Phil Thomas Katt

postmodernism:

lemonmeringue got the ball rolling on this whole Mark Gormley deal, but I decided to dig deeper into the history of this Gulf Coast musical phenomenon. At the bottom of it all, the genius of one Phil Thomas Katt and his public access music television show, The Uncharted Zone, resides.

Katt (right), with his good friend Tommy Robinetti.

The biography page on his personal website shows a long, successful career in the Gulf Coast music scene, culminating in the dominance of his television show, The Uncharted Zone, which repeatedly pulls in high ratings in Pensacola and several adjoining counties.

Producing some of the most cutting-edge music videos this side of the Eastern Bloc, Katt has found amazing local talent of high pedigree. He provides these otherwise unknown artists an opportunity to become international superstars, charging a mere $99.95 to produce a music video that would probably win every MTV Moonman ever, if only the 6 TV stations that carry the show were able to send out a signal beyond their current 50 mile radius.

With the advent of YouTube and The Internets, Katt looks to expand his music empire by attracting a younger audience and winning the hearts of the “Myspace generation”.

Brilliance often goes by unnoticed, but Katt’s impact on Florida music is inequivocally unforgetabble. Do yourself a favor and discover the amazing world of The Uncharted Zone. Or whatever.

“Without You” Lyrics

Here I sit with a cigarette burning
All alone and you’re not here
All by myself and no one to talk to
Thinkin’ bout you girl it’s all I can do

Go in the night, pack your things up and lie
I guess I’ll beware of love with a bite
Roll on girl, roll to tomorrow
Travelin’ on girl Without You in the night

All alone in the night
Without You holding me tight in the night
Without me all alone in the night
Without You holding me tight in the night

Scoring a point, is that all you think of?
Putting another prize on the wall?
Don’t play around with my affection, woman
Someone you know will not come when you call

All alone in the night
Without You holding me tight in the night
Without me all alone in the night
Without You holding me tight in the night

Without You in the night
Without You in the night

Special Report with Mark Gormley

"I cried for 11 hours straight when I first heard this song. Because he is a perfect being, The Gorm knows the extremes of joy and sorrow and tries to relay it to us mere mortals in a way we can comprehend. This is why he wears the band-aid. He wants to tell us all that it is ok to feel pain, even if he himself can not"
